The United Methodists have some of the best youth speakers in the world! Check out who has agreed to be the keynote speakers for Youth 2007. These great men and woman have vast life experiences, deep faith convictions and a passion to live life with the youth of our churches. They will bring energy and excitement to our plenary sessions, encouraging us to go out into the world as committed and confident believers and followers of Christ.

Kathleen Baskin-Ball

Rev. Kathleen Baskin-Ball is Sr. Pastor of Suncreek United Methodist Church in a northern suburb of Dallas, Texas. She has led churches in three distinctly different settings: a bilingual church in a multi-ethnic inner-city neighborhood, an aging church in an eclectic community, and a young suburban church. In every setting, worship attendance has increased dramatically and membership has at least doubled. Her preaching was one of the highlights of the South Central Jurisdiction's Youth SpiLiRa. She has recently preached at large youth events in 3 different Annual Conferences. She is a dynamic preacher who moves the mind and heart. She glows with an infectious loving spirit that is lively, yet humble.


Ray Buckley

Ray Buckley resides and works in Palmer, Alaska and is the Director of Connectional Ministries for the Alaska Missionary Conference of The United Methodist Church. He provides links between the Alaska Missionary Conference, Native tribes, churches, and leadership in the contiguous United States, and the 229 tribes in Alaska. Buckley is the author and illustrator of five books including, The Give-Away. He has taught in Nigeria, and Ghana, and has served as a lecturer in Native American studies for several universities. He is one of several Native leaders profiled in As Long As the Waters Flow, By Frye Gilliard, and The Power of Eagles, by Twyman L. Towery. A keynote speaker for several events, Buckley was a highlighted speaker at the Jubilee 2000, Cardinal Maeda Institute.


Minerva Carcaño

The first Hispanic woman to be elected to the episcopacy of The United Methodist Church and currently serves the Phoenix Area. Since the early years of her life, Bishop Carcaño has aspired to make a difference in the lives of persons who face poverty and discrimination. She has encouraged and led congregations to be active in community organizing and to work ecumenically believing that communities hold the experience and wisdom to create a world of justice and peace if they will but come together. The Bishop is married to Thomas Spaniolo, and they have a 14 year old daughter, Sofia.


Linda Lee

Serves as the first African American woman bishop in the North Central Jurisdictional Conference. A graduate of United Theological Seminary, Bishop Lee has served the church and the academy in diverse ways over the past twenty years. She has served as a speaker for numerous schools, retreats, and conferences, and is a two-time delegate to General Conference, as well as a contributing writer in several publications. The Bishop is married to Lamarr Gibson, an elder in The United Methodist Church. The couple has three children and twelve grandchildren.


Scott Jones

Scott Jameson Jones serves as Resident Bishop of the Kansas Area of the United Methodist Church. Prior to his election in 2004, he served as pastor of four congregations in the North Texas Annual Conference and as Associate Professor of Evangelism at Perkins School of Theology. He is the author four books, most recently United Methodist Doctrine: The Extreme Center and The Evangelistic Love of God and Neighbor. Scott is married to Mary Lou Reece, who is president of Reece Construction Company. They have three children.


Michael Williams

Michael Williams is Senior Pastor of First United Methodist Church, Hendersonville Tennessee. He was educated at Vanderbilt University, Garrett-Evangelical Theological Seminary, and earned a Ph.D. from Northwestern University. Michael has taught courses for Garrett Seminary, Vanderbilt Divinity School, Candler School of Theology, and the Doctor of Ministry programs of Drew and Wesley Theological Seminaries. He is the author of numerous articles, stories, poems, plays and books and serves as General Editor of The Storyteller's Companion to the Bible series from Abingdon Press. Michael is frequent guest speaker and workshop leader at regional, national, and international events. He has been a featured storyteller at the National Storytelling Festival and has taught at the National Institutes of Storytelling. Michael is married to Margaret, and they are parents of two daughters, Sarah and Elizabeth.

While serving a church in Columbia, Tennessee he won first prize at the Mule Day Liar's Contest.
