Who reassures the reassurer?
by Blair Thompson
It's night. Snoopy knocks on the door with this foot. Charlie Brown gets out of bed, opens the door, and bends down to Snoopy.
"Are you upset, little friend," Charlie asks. "Have you been lying awake worrying? Well, don't worry. I'm here. I'm here to give you reassurance. Everything is all right. The floodwaters will recede, the famine will end, the sun will shine tomorrow. And I will be here to take care of you. Be reassured."
Snoopy walks back to his doghouse. Charlie gets back into bed and pondering, asks, "Who reassures the reassurer?"
How do we as Christians respond to disaster? We reassure others. Trinity United Methodist Church in Gulf Port, Mississippi, is feeding hundreds of individuals who remain in the area. Without the use of electricity and running water, church members are relying on donated food and the church's gas stove to prepare hot meals for individuals.
We reassure others because we are reassured by the love and grace of Jesus Christ through whom all things are possible.
The floodwaters will recede, the famine will end, the sun will shine, and Jesus will be with us, aiding and reassuring us, through it all.
