What is a ministry network?
At the heart of Young People's Ministries is the concept of networking. The primary work of the Young People's Division will be centered on strengthening and creating connections among young people in the church. Global networks of youth, young adults, and adult workers with young people will be formed and guided by the Division. The Division will provide the point of connection, assist in visioning, and maintain accountability for these constituent networks. The networks will span throughout the connection in local churches, annual conferences, and central conferences/jurisdictions.
At the general church level, the Division will have three coordinating teams caring for the specific concerns of each of these global connections. The coordinating teams of these networks will work as such:
- a coordinating team of United Methodist youth that will embrace the core values of the former United Methodist Youth Organization (Compassion, Advocacy, Partnership, Outreach, and Leadership) and administer the Youth Service Fund. This fulfills the Youth Organization's desire to create and support the global aspect of youth ministry;
- a coordinating team of United Methodist young adults that will include networking, advocacy, leadership development, and ministry resources for young adults;
- and a coordinating team of United Methodist adults in ministry with young people responsible for developing and supporting networks of youth and young adult ministry workers; training and development of annual conference ministry leaders; providing resources and support for local churches; and coordinating events for youth, young adults, and youth and young adult ministry workers.
