What about shots and immunization?

The requirements may vary from country to country; therefore, each participant should check with its government about health information and immunizations when traveling to South Africa.

What is the cost for this event?
The cost for a delegate is $70USD. The cost for a non-delegate is $200USD. The housing and meal package is in addition and there is a discount for doubling up in a room. Go to registration for more information.
What are the extra costs that I must consider?
1) Phone Calls - Consider buying an International Calling Card to call your family. If you are using a calling card with a 1-800-#, there will be no connection fee for calling from your room. You can make a collect call to home with no connection fee from your hotel room; however, you will definitely want to let home know this before you leave.
2) Beverages - You will have to pay for beverages at meals (not including water). You will need to pay in Rand each occasion you order a drink. Note: Because the Rand is weaker than the dollar, anything you buy will cost a little more than half what you would expect to pay for the equivalent back at home.
3) Electrical Adapters - You can buy an adapter (for your hair-dryer, etc.) before you leave for Johannesburg, or you can buy one at the Indaba Hotel for 30 Rand (while supplies last).
4) Souvenirs - If you plan on purchasing souvenirs, take a little extra money; spending money is always good.
Is there internet access?
There are two hot spots on the Indaba Hotel property for wireless access (if your laptop is equipped with a wireless card) OR you can charge it as a phone call to your room (this can be expensive). You can also use the Indaba Hotel business center at 1R per minute.
How do I book my FLIGHT to South Africa?
We suggest using a travel agent to book your flight to South Africa, especially if you are flying internationally. You can use any travel agent you prefer, but we suggest Travel Time.

How do I go about obtaining a passport (U.S. Citizens)?
To obtain a passport for the first time, you need to go in person to a passport acceptance facility. Acceptance facilities include many Federal, state and probate courts, post offices, some public libraries and a number of county and municipal offices. You must bring two photographs of yourself (you can take a passport photo at most drug stores), proof of U.S. citizenship, and a valid form of photo identification such as a driver’s license.
You will need to apply in person if you are applying for the first time. Also, if your expired U.S. passport is not in your possession, if your previous U.S. passport has expired and was issued more than 15 years ago, or if your previous U.S. passport was issued when you are under 16, or if your currently valid U.S. passport has been lost or stolen, you must also apply in person.
In the United States, a passport for someone under 16 will cost $82. A passport for someone over 16 is $97. The process of obtaining a passport takes around six weeks, so you must PLAN AHEAD.
For more information on obtaining your passport in the US, go to http://travel.state.gov/passport/passport_1738.html.
