The Convocation

During the Global Young People’s Convocation participants will engage in worship, bible study, leadership development training and cultural exchange. This will be a great opportunity for Young People and Adult Workers from around the world to connect, learn and share from each other. The Gathering will take place in Johannesburg, South Africa an excellent opportunity to also learn, share and experience the ministry of Young People in South Africa.

The Global Young People’s Convocation is open to all United Methodist Youth, Young Adult and Adult Worker with Young People of the denomination. Only delegates can vote at the Legislative Assembly.

Convo Registration (non-delegates)

Registration Fee: $200
Registration fee covers: transportation to/from the airport and visit to community ministries; museum admission fees, event t-shirt, booklet and translation equipment.

Meals & Accomodations:

Meals & Accomodations fees covers the expenses of meals and snacks. Participants are responsible for purchasing beverages at meals.

The Division on Ministries with Young People has at its disposal $2400 which will be divided into three $800 scholarships for one youth or young adult from three of the Africa Central Conferences to attend the Global Young People's Convocation & Legislative Assembly. The scholarship funds are to help pay for some of the costs associated with attending the Global Young People's Convocation & Legislative Assembly. The scholarships are for non-delegates only.

The scholarship application requires that each youth or young adult applicant answer three out of four questions about leadership. The questions and applicant’s responses should be thoughtfully and carefully considered. The scholarship application deadline is August 30, 2006. All applications must be received by midnight of that date. A scholarship review committee will then meet and prayerfully consider all applications. Scholarship recipients will be notified in early September after the committee has made their decisions.

Applications may be emailed to globalconvo@gbod.org, faxed to (615) 340-7063, or mailed to Kenia da Silva Guimaraes at the address at the bottom of the page. We will only accept applications that are typed; handwritten submissions are not acceptable. It is of utmost importance that all scholarship applications be received in our office no later than midnight on Wednesday, August 30, 2006. Any scholarship applications received after that time will not be considered.
