Armindo Mapoissa Assists in Leading Conference

Youth and Young Adults in the South Africa Provisional Conference gathered during their Seventh Session of the Annual Conference from September 22 to September 27, 2009. The Young People’s Ministry in South Africa is called the United Methodist Youth Fellowship. The conference was led in English and Thloza, a South African dialect, and the young people in South Africa wore uniforms during the meeting.

During the District reports, it was clear that the youth membership numbers are increasing, but they need a lot of help. They also need a better understanding of the structure of the United Methodist Church, because many of the members are coming from other denominations.

Holston Conference Youth Make a Difference

Bibles for Congo YouthHolston Conference youth (www.holston.org/ministries/Youth/) have a history of being highly involved in the Youth Service Fund (YSF). Holston heard about the growing number of young people in the United Methodist Church in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DR Congo). The trouble these youth face with the studies though is that there are frequently not enough Bibles! It is common for there to be one Bible to share among 40-50 young people. The youth of the Holston conference heard about this need and they responded.
