50th Anniversary of Full Clergy Rights for Women — Introduction
May 4, 1956, was the day — the day that the General Conference of the former Methodist Church granted full clergy rights to women. 2006 will be the
50th anniversary of this historic event.
Think about all the gifts that
clergywomen have brought to the church in these fifty years! Think about how the cause of Christ has been advanced because of their efforts.
We need to celebrate this anniversary and, along with it, the gifts that
clergywomen have brought, are bringing, and will bring in the future.
(June 19, 2006, UMNS) Resources Celebrate Women of Color, Clergywomen's 50th
DVDs, books, bulletin inserts, hymns, dramas, litanies and more are being offered across the United Methodist Church to celebrate the diversity of clergywomen and recognize the 50th anniversary of full clergy rights for women in the denomination.
Courageous Spirit: Voices from Women in Ministry
Pioneers are hard to come by these days. Yet, women clergy come close. Since breaking the Methodist ecclesial glass ceiling in 1956, women have boldly and courageously stood for their rightful place in the church and in faith.
Celebrate the 50th anniversary of Full Clergy Rights for Women with this book of prayers, essays, devotional reflections, and personal stories by women clergy from within The United Methodist Church.
