Presented by The General Board of Discipleship's Discipleship University.
WHAT: This is a time of learning and retreat for United Methodist pastors, worship leaders, and musicians. If you are a pastor, worship leader, or are involved in music in The United Methodist Church, you are welcome. Come alone or as a team.
(This event will be limited to the first 50 pastors and first 50 musicians staying on campus and additional commuters as we are able to accommodate them. See the cancelation policy below and on the registration page.)
WHERE: The United Methodist General Board of Discipleship, Nashville Tennessee. Overnight
accommodations and meals will be available at the Scarritt-Bennett Center, 1008 19th Avenue, South, Nashville, TN 37212-2166 -- across the street from The General Board of Discipleship and The General Board of Higher Education and Ministry, adjoining the Vanderbilt University campus and Nashville's famous "Music Row."
WHY: Pastors and musicians work hard at ministry every week. This event is part RETREAT and part STUDY. We recognize the need for church workers to have a time away from their churches, their choirs, their duties, and their congregations -- a time to re-generate, re-charge, and re-form -- a time when they can relax a bit and be themselves without the continual pressures imposed by local church ministry. But we also recognize that such a time can include opportunities for learning, encountering new friends and new ideas, and being challenged by excellent speakers. This retreat will include speakers, music reading sessions, worship, a tour of The United Methodist Publishing House (UMPH) with lunch, a visit to the flagship Cokesbury Store across from UMPH, visiting The Upper Room Chapel, Museum, and Bookstore, fellowship, and one evening's free time to experience Nashville. Our aim is to provide R&R, spiritual formation and renewal, plus some new ideas, materials, and tools to take home for future pastoral and music ministry. In the process, you will meet some of the staff of the general agencies of The United Methodist Church in Nashville: The General Board of Discipleship, The Upper Room, The United Methodist Publishing House, Abingdon Press, Cokesbury, General Board of Global Ministries, Global Praise, and The Fellowship of United Methodists in Music and Worship Arts (FUMMWA).
