20 The Millerites were one of many apocalyptic groups in the 19th century that yearned for and predicted a specific “end of the present age.” In the case of Miller’s followers, the people developed a Utopian community as they awaited and lived through two predictions of Christ’s second coming. Many of the early Millerites disbanded, but others regrouped to form the Seventh Day Adventist Church.
