Offertory Prayers for August 2007
August 5, 2007 — Tenth Sunday After Pentecost
Loving God, we take so many things for granted — the air we breathe, the friends we have, hope for tomorrow — and we sail through life without thinking much about you. Forgive us. As we present these offerings, we take the time to remember. You are good. Your mercy is beyond our comprehension. These gifts are a way we say "thank you." Thank you, God. Amen.
August 12, 2007 — Eleventh Sunday After Pentecost
Merciful God, we confess that we sometimes wonder if our giving makes any difference. We know it makes a difference in our lives, but we wonder if it makes any difference to you. Receive these gifts as symbols of "us." We want your heart to be warmed by our gifts, as we are humbled and encouraged by those who give gifts to us. We present these gifts, O God, as a way to say to you that we are giving ourselves. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.
August 19, 2007 — Twelfth Sunday After Pentecost
O God, may these gifts bring your justice to the cities, suburbs, and rural areas of this nation. May the gifts be used to bring mercy to those who have slipped. May the gifts be used to bring hope to those who struggle with despair. As we give, ignite the fire of your Spirit within us. We pray in the name of Jesus the light. Amen.
August 26, 2007 — Thirteenth Sunday After Pentecost
Many of us, O God, have been very busy making the money that we give in this time of worship. This time of giving allows us to step back and put things in perspective. Your love is greater than our moneymaking. Your generosity is beyond our comprehension. We give this money to remind ourselves of your generosity and to pray that it will enable more people to experience your love and mercy in the name of Jesus. Amen.
