Eighty Percent of Success Is Showing Up![]() |
Covenant Discipleship groups are not intended to help you feel like a "successful" Christian. Nor do they exist to make you feel that you have "failed" in your discipleship because you have not done everything in your covenant during the week. Whether you keep all of the covenant, or none of it, is beside the point.
You are, no doubt, asking: "What is the point then? If Covenant Discipleship is not about success or failure in discipleship, what is it about?" It's about showing up. What matters most in any Covenant Discipleship group is the members showing up each week to be together and to build one another up in love. Your presence each week is much more important than your "success" or "failure" with any part of your group covenant. The group exists to build up the body of Christ by building up one another. Woody Allen once said, "Eighty percent of success is showing up." The other twenty percent is how you did with keeping the covenant. Mr. Allen's statement perceptively sums up the nature of the groups. Showing up each week guarantees the success of the group because it is in the being together to watch over one another in love that grace flows in and through the group for the members, the church, and the world. Jesus puts it this way, "For where two or three are gathered in my name, I am there among them" (Matthew 18:20).
