In January 1994, Shirley Ramsey and I began to create what became Sprouts. By December we had written the book based on our experiences and the reactions of eight pilot groups in other churches. The book, Sprouts: Nurturing Children Through Covenant Discipleship was published in 1996. A lot has happened in the ensuing years. Sprouts groups are operating in churches all over the U.S. (and soon will be in the Philippines). We have all learned a lot.

Early last year, Shirley and I met with Steve Manskar, Director of Accountable Discipleship, General Board of Discipleship; Cay Barton, Director of Children's Ministries, First United Methodist Church, Hendersonville, Tennessee; and Linda Whited, Acquisitions Editor, Discipleship Ministries. We have created an updated and expanded resource, Sprouts: Covenant Discipleship With Children. It has many new ideas for activities, new background material, and additional resources. Even veteran Sprouts leaders will want to check it out!
