Sprouts Speak Out

In a recent article, Edie Harris called for comments from current or former Sprouts participants about what they think about Sprouts and how it has affected their spiritual journey. They were asked to reflect on these questions:

  • What do you like best about Sprouts?
  • How has Sprouts helped you be a better Christian?
  • Why do you participate in Sprouts?
  • What difference has Sprouts made in your life?

On this page, you see responses received. You are still invited to continue to send responses to Edie Harris, 2622 Forest Dr., Melbourne, FL 32901; bricedie@juno.com. Be sure to include your name, address, phone number, and e-mail address, along with a statement signed by each child and his or her parent(s) giving permission for his or her response to be printed in CDQ and posted on the General Board of Discipleship web site. Group photos are encouraged.

The children who contributed to this page participate in Sprouts at
(1) Dayspring UMC, Tempe, AZ, under the leadership of Shirley Ramsey;
(2) Shirley-Wilkinson Community UMC, Greenfield, IN, with Tammi Flood;
(3) Gibson UMC, Illinois, led by Barb Horsch.

Thanks to these three leaders who took the time to have their children write about Sprouts.

The important thing about Sprouts is talking about situations that have happened to us, praying for others, and it helps us to remember to pray. But the most important thing about Sprouts is helping the homeless.
    — Micheal

The important things about Sprouts are: Reminding each other to read the Bible 3 times a week. We also try to teach each other about God and Jesus. Also, we find out as much as we can about homeless people and hungry people. But, the most important thing is learning a lot and having fun.

Sprouts taught me what new things God will and won't want us to do as we mature and turn into teens. I like to learn new things about God along with the Bible. I'm reading the Bible more often.

Gibson UMC, Illinois

The best thing about Sprouts is writing in our journals to talk to God, while listening to Christian music.
    — Jaisi Sanderson, 4th grade

Sprouts taught me everything about God.
    — Cameron Dewey, 4th grade

I read from the Bible more and pray more. I believe in God more and at Sprouts I can talk to God in my own way.
    — Taylor Tjardes, 4th grade

I like Sprouts because we can spend time with the kids and have fun while learning about being a Christian. It helped me by learning how to solve problems and ask God for help. It helped me see kids can help in many ways!
    — Lyndi Ferguson, 4th grade

I praise the Lord more.
