An Invitation: Wesley Studies in England
August 2-12, 2006

You are invited to spend ten days of learning, prayer, worship, reflection, small-group experiences, fun, and adventure in John Wesley's England. Start making plans and saving money for this exciting, enlightening, and energizing experience that will happen August 2-12, 2006.

Plans are being made now for forty people called United Methodists of all ages — clergy and lay — to gather at Sarum College in the Close of Salisbury Cathedral (www.salisburycathedral.org.uk) in the heart of Salisbury, England. Sarum College (www.sarum.ac.uk) is an ecumenical school that provides training and continuing education for pastoral leaders. It will serve as home for the group in 2006. The people who participated in the August 2003 Wesley Studies event know that the hospitality offered by Sarum College is warm and generousÉthe food is also out of this world!

Leaders for this event will be Dr. Steven W. Manskar, Director of Accountable Discipleship for the General Board of Discipleship of The United Methodist Church, and Dr. Tim Macquiban, Principal of Sarum College, Wesley scholar, and a minister in the Methodist Church of Great Britain.

Bawtry

Overnight accommodations for the trip to Epworth will be Bawtry Hall — http://bawtryhall.co.uk — in the little village of Bawtry in Southern Yorkshire. The group will visit the Epworth parish church, Wesley Memorial Chapel, and the Old Rectory. There will also be a brief visit to the town of Lincoln (including Lincoln Castle and Cathedral).

The purpose of this event is to help participants gain a deeper understanding of and appreciation for the United Methodist Wesleyan tradition and practice. This event is for all United Methodist clergy and laity who want to gain a deeper knowledge of Wesleyan theology and practice and reflect on implications and application for ministry in the twenty-first century.
