The group will explore: Bristol: Home of the Methodist class meeting. London: Where Wesley experienced assurance of his salvation (Aldersgate Street) and built his home and chapel. We will learn about the life and ministry of John Wesley and the people called Methodists. And we will discover contemporary applications of Wesleyan theology and its relevance to the twenty-first-century church. This will be a great experience for Covenant Discipleship groups, pastors, lay leaders, and lay speakers. This event qualifies for 3 Continuing Education Units. Tuesday, August 12: Arrival Afternoon: Arrive Sarum College around 1:00 pm for lunch. Tour Salisbury Cathedral, Stonehenge, local environs. Evening: Introductory learning time with Tim Macquiban Wednesday, August 13: Oxford Morning & Afternoon: Tour of Wesley historic city center sites Evening: Learning Time Thursday, August 14: Salisbury Morning: Sarum College — Learning Time Afternoon: Learning Time Evening: Local events — theater, city hall, Stonehenge, etc. Friday, August 15: Bristol Morning: Tours of the New Room and Charles Wesley House followed by prayers in the New Room Chapel Evening: Free time Saturday, August 16: London Morning & Afternoon: Wesley Chapel & House, Aldersgate Street, etc. Evening: Closing Learning Time Sunday, August 17: Departure Morning: Breakfast & departure for airport
COST: $699 includes five nights' lodging1, three meals per day, ground transportation2, all admission and lecture fees. All participants will be responsible for securing their own roundtrip airfare and ground transportation to Sarum College in Salisbury. This will allow people to extend their stay in England to spend more time in London and to visit Epworth, Newcastle, Cornwall, Wales, and Scotland. Many great deals may be found on the Internet (e.g., www.orbitz.com, www.expedia.com). Typical summer airfare from the U.S. to England (London: Heathrow or Gatwick airports) is $900-$1100. Ground transportation from London airports to Salisbury is $45-$70. Detailed information on rail and coach transportation to Salisbury will be provided upon request.
1Rooms at Sarum College are double occupancy, dormitory style. All rooms have twin beds, sink, desk, and chair. Toilets and showers are shared. There are a limited number of en-suite rooms available. 2This does not include transportation from and to any airports. All participants are responsible for their own transportation to Sarum College. Detailed information on how to get around in England will be provided.
RESERVATIONS: This trip must be limited to 25 people. The first 25 to send a reservation form with deposit to Steven Manskar at the General Board of Discipleship will be assured a place. If you miss the first 25 places, your name will be placed on a waiting list. You will be contacted if any cancellations occur. Reservations must be made no later than May 31, 2003.
