Celebrating 25 Years of Church Renewal Mark Wethington & Grace Bradford

More than 80 people gathered in November at Duke Divinity School, Duke University, to celebrate 25 years of church renewal through Covenant Discipleship groups and to be trained for this ministry. Preaching at the commemorative worship service was Ann Sherer, President of the Council for Accountable Discipleship and Resident Bishop of the Missouri Area of The United Methodist Church. Keynote speaker was David Lowes Watson, Director of The Office of Pastoral Formation for the Nashville Area United Methodist Church. Both were pioneers in developing the ministry of Covenant Discipleship. Presentations were made on Worship and Devotion by Michael Battle, Assistant Professor of Spirituality and Studies at Duke Divinity School; and Compassion and Justice by Peter J. Storey, Professor of the Practice of Christian Ministry at Duke Divinity School. Workshops on different areas of accountable discipleship were led by Steven Manskar, Gayle Watson, Mark Wethington, Grace Bradford, Elaine Amerson, David C. Sutherland, and Edie Genung Harris. The workshop was sponsored by Duke Divinity School, Center for Continuing Education, and coordinated by Mark Wethington, pastor of Southern Pines United Methodist Church, Southern Pines, North Carolina.
