Covenant Discipleship Quarterly
background
Covenant Discipleship is a small-group ministry in the Wesleyan tradition. Groups meet weekly for one hour. The agenda is a covenant written by the group based upon the General Rule of Discipleship: To witness to Jesus Christ in the world and to follow his teachings through acts of compassion, justice, worship and devotion under the guidance of the Holy Spirit. Through a process of mutual accountability and support for practicing the basics of Christian faith, members "watch over one another in love." Covenant Discipleship groups help to form people as dependable and mature disciples of Jesus Christ and leaders in discipleship.

Wesleyan Institute, October 22-24, 2009, Los Angeles, CA

Covenant Discipleship Connection - May 2009
The legacy of John Wesley, founder of the Methodist movement, was his development of a method that would help people practice their faith. In Wesley’s lifetime, Methodists were simply people who consistently practiced this method.

Covenant Discipleship Connection - April 2009
Christ is alive! His life is the way of salvation, which is the way of healing, wholeness, compassion, and justice. This is why acts of justice are among the four ways disciples follow Jesus’ teachings included in the General Rule of Discipleship. But acts of justice are always the most difficult for Covenant Discipleship groups to understand.

Covenant Discipleship Connection - March 2009
The 2008 General Conference added to the vows of church membership. All the vows are contained in the Baptismal Covenant found on pages 33-39 of The United Methodist Hymnal. The change I am writing about here is to a question found on page 38 under the heading “Reception into the Local Congregation:" As members of this congregation, will you faithfully participate in its ministries by your prayers, your presence, your gifts, your service, and your witness? Did you notice the change?

Covenant Discipleship Connection - February 2009
The Rev. Dr. Vicki Miller Brendler explains how the Covenant Discipleship model can help pastors and other religious professionals be grounded spiritually, to be accountable to one another, and work toward fulfilling the purpose for their life and ministry.
