What is the School of Congregational Development?
Starting in the 1980s The General Board of Discipleship and The General Board of Global Ministries created an experience to train new church pastors. In the last ten years the SCD has blossomed to include training for Bishops, District Superintendents, Conference Staff, pastors, and church teams who desire to learn how to create and develop disciple-making congregations. Developed by GBGM, GBOD, and Path 1 with collaboration with the National Plans, this year we will be in the dynamic city of Chicago as we are hosted by the Northern Illinois Annual Conference.

Location
Taking advantage of the City of Evanston, Illinois, the SCD will start with Registration the Opening Plenary at the Orrington Hotel which is in the center of the city. Plenaries and most classes will be in the Orrington. Worship will take place at First Church United Methodist Church in Evanston which is just a couple of blocks away. Some classes will also be located at Garrett-Evangelical Theological Seminary which also is within walking distance of the Hotel. Teaching Churches are either within walking distance or are accessible through public transportation. Limited shuttle service will be made available for participants who need assistance. Participants will not need cars for this year’s event and are highly recommended to take public transportation to the event.
