Leave for Leaders
Introduction
Discipleship Ministries in Nashville offers United Methodist leaders and pastors a unique opportunity to spend a week in self-directed study, worship, and prayer. The study leave is designed to give leaders time to breathe, to reflect, and to seek God's call for their life and ministry.
Unlike traditional continuing education events that offer a specific course of study, Leave for Leaders invites each participant to focus on his or her own personal development needs. Plan a Sermon Series, study the works of John Wesley, design a discipleship system for your church, reflect on a Letter in the New Testament; it's up to you.
As part of the registration process, be sure to propose a study topic so we can connect you with staff and leaders who may have something to share with you. Tell us the questions you want to explore and we'll do our best to help you during the week.
Participants will have full access to the Vanderbilt University Divinity School Library. Arrangements can be made for participants to have one-on-one consultations with Discipleship Ministries staff (The Upper Room, Leadership Resources Division, Path 1, and Division on Ministry with Young People).
Ideal candidates for this program are those who have a clear proposal and who will plan their time to include many aspects of the Nashville experience.
The program is five days. Each hour spent studying, writing, researching, and meeting with Agency staff is worth 0.1 Continuing Education Units. Twenty hours of study are expected during the week, for a minimum award of 2.0 CEU.
Number of Participants
The number of participants will be limited to 20 per week to allow for maximum time for interaction with leaders and other participants of the Study Leave.
