Wayne Barrett
has been Executive Director of the United Methodist Foundation of the West Michigan Foundation since 1982. He has served over 400 congregations with programs and consultations in planned giving and stewardship development. As a Financial Planner, Wayne serves as editor of The Clergy Finance Letter, the leading personal finance publication for clergy in the United States. In this position he conducts tax, pre-retirement, financial planning, and estate planning seminars across the country. Besides The Clergy Finance Letter, he is widely published in magazines and author of three books: Church Finance Idea Book, Clergy Personal Finance, and More Money, New Money, Big Money.
Donald W. Joiner
is an ordained clergyperson, A Financial Planner, and a Certified Planned Giving Specialist. He has served churches in Wisconsin, Illinois, and Michigan. He has been with the General Board of Discipleship, Section on Stewardship, The United Methodist Church, since 1985. As Director of Stewardship he leads the denomination in understanding fund development, planned giving, and clergy finance. He is a prolific writer and author of: Creating A Climate For Giving; Stewardship: A Rainbow of Possibility; and Christians and Money: A Guide To Personal Finance. He has co-authored: Celebrate Giving; Celebrate and Visit; Celebrate Together; and The Abingdon Guide To Funding Ministry. In addition he is a contributing writer to: The Interpreter, Clergy Finance Letter, The Clergy Journal, Celebrate Stewardship, The Circuit Rider, and Christian Ministry.
Renard J. Kolasa
is an attorney and principal partner in the law firm of Couzens, Lansky, Fealk, Ellis, Roeder & Lazar, P.C. He specializes in tax and business law. He has worked extensively in the areas of estate and gift tax planning, charitable giving, employee benefits, and small business law. Renard is also an instructor in the CLU/CFC program of The American College and Lawrence Institute of Technology and a frequent lecturer on many areas of personal and business tax planning. He is Chancellor of the Detroit Annual Conference and noted author of the notebook and video series: “Planned Giving - The Roots of Responsible Stewardship and Mission Outreach.”
Frederick H. Leasure
is Executive Director of the United Methodist Foundation of Western Pennsylvania. The National Society of Fund Raising Executives has designated him a Certified Fund Raising Executive (CFRE). He has served as a faculty member of the Community College of Allegheny county’s program and has lectured nationally on various tax and planned giving topics. During his tenure with the Foundation, a system of field staff representatives has been created and the assets under management have increased by $40 million dollars. He has authored, Exempt From What, and is a frequent contributor to many publications.
John Rivas
of Brentwood, TN has served as Director of Development of The United Methodist Church Foundation. A certified fund raising executive with over 16 years of professional fund development experience, Mr. Rivas is responsible for developing and managing a strategy for individual major and planned gifts, and identifying other funding sources, on the denominational level. A graduate of Southern Nazarene University, Bethany, Oklahoma and Nazarene Theological Seminary, Kansas City, Missouri, he is a member of Brentwood United Methodist Church in Brentwood, TN. Mr. Rivas served previously as Director of Development of the College of Health and Social Sciences at New Mexico State University, Associate Director of the El Paso Community College Foundation; the Founder/Executive Director of Amy’s House, Inc. in Washington, D.C.; Director of Development for Community of Hope, Inc.; and Director of Development of the P.F. Breese Foundation in Los Angeles, CA.
