United Methodist Worship and Music Publishing at the General Board of Discipleship Since 1968

The Book of Discipline of The United Methodist Church gives to the General Board of Discipleship the responsibility for developing resources for worship, preaching, and music. This responsibility was first given to the Commission on Worship by the 1968 General Conference at the founding of The United Methodist Church. The 1972 General Conference merged the Commission on Worship with other agencies to form The General Board of Discipleship (GBOD). At the beginning of its organization, the GBOD established the Section on Worship to oversee research and development of worship and music resources for the denomination.
