(June 12, 2007, GBOD/UR) — SOULfeast, The Upper Room's signature spiritual formation conference, will be held July 15-19, 2007, in Lake Junaluska, N.C.
A spiritual formation event for congregational leaders, lay people, adults, teens and children, SOULfeast (www.UpperRoom.org/soulfeast) offers five days of Sabbath rest and spiritual enrichment.
"All who come will discover valuable resources that will deepen the spiritual life of both the individual and the congregation," says the Rev. Karen Greenwaldt, top executive for the General Board of Discipleship, an agency of The United Methodist Church.
An ecumenical event open to anyone interested in deepening a life with God, SOULfeast invites families to come and engage in experiences for all ages, and congregational leadership teams are invited to come and glean resources for nourishing the spiritual life of their congregations.
Keynote speaker, the Rev. Trevor Hudson, pastor of Northfield Methodist Church near Johannesburg, South Africa, will lead participants in the conference theme, "The Listening Heart: Wisdom for Living and Leading."
Author of A Mile in My Shoes and the Companions in Christ® resource, The Way of Transforming Discipleship, Hudson brings spiritual depth and down-to-earth warmth as he challenges people to be attentive to God.
Worship and the arts consultant, the Rev. Marcia McFee preaches and leads worship and workshops for churches and conferences across the U.S., Europe, and Asia.
McFee's hands-on workbook, The Worship Workshop: Creative Ways to Design Worship Together, guides worship teams through evaluation, study, and worship design.
McFee brings an engaging, interactive style to SOULfeast worship, which will offer old-time gospel singing, Taizé and contemporary and traditional worship styles.
The SOULfeast team also includes Dan Glover, co-author of Deepening Your Effectiveness, Restructuring the Local Church for Life Transformation (Discipleship Resources), and the Rev. Marjorie Thompson, author of Soulfeast (John Knox Press). Thompson will present a workshop on "Discernment: Listening for the Divine Lead."
