"We're on the Air!"

The voice on the other end of the phone said, "We'll be on the air in about five minutes . . . you will hear music, then a commercial, then I will announce the program and you will be on the air." It sounded so casual, but what an opportunity!

Jack Lewis, a coordinator in Pennsylvania, arranged for the Lay Witness Mission to be the subject of an hour-long talk show on station WGRC, hosted by Larry Weidman. What a gift! Larry knew The United Methodist Church, and he knew the Lay Witness Mission and what it was about. He asked questions that allowed us to talk about the mission and its purpose, goals, results. In addition, he was knowledgeable about evangelism and allowed and invited us to talk about reaching people for Christ.

Jack Lewis and two team members from Millville United Methodist Church, Saundra Ludwig and Shirley Leonard, were in the studio. Also present was Joe Palmer, a Lay Witness youth coordinator and an intern at the station. The program, "The Matter at Hand," reached people who were interested in knowing more about the Lay Witness Mission, as well as people who wanted to be reconnected to the ministry as team members. It was also a reminder of the importance of making a commitment to Jesus Christ, growing in discipleship, and sharing our faith with others.
