Reflections from Team Members
In the spring, at one of the Lay Witness Training Events, a group of team members was invited to share questions and comments about what would help them as they participated in and led missions. The following are their responses:
- It would be good if the church put "Lay Witness Invitation" on the outside of the envelopes. Some first-time invitees toss the letter without looking inside. "Lay Witness Invitation" would help them know this is important mail and not "junk" mail.
- Attention Coordinators: Team members would like to receive a packet at the beginning of the weekend that contains all the small-group information so they can look it over. This is especially important for first-time or relatively new team members.
- Team members like to receive a packet from the church with lists of names and addresses of people who are housing them. This helps with thank you notes after the mission. A list of names and addresses of coffee hosts is important as well.
- One coordinator shared this idea: The church invited a Girl Scout troop from a neighboring church to serve meals. The girls earned a service badge for this project.
Team members were encouraged and reminded to return the cards as soon as possible.
Coordinators were asked to encourage local churches to see the weekend as a way to reach people who may not otherwise participate in the life of the church. The Saturday-morning coffees in homes are particularly welcoming for visitors and guests.
