In Memoriam: Shirley Roe Painter
It is with great sadness that we report the death of our good friend Shirley Roe Painter, who died November 16, 2007, in Kennewick, Washington. Shirley served as the Western Jurisdiction representative on the United Methodist Committee on Older Adult Ministries from 1997-2004 and as the chair of the committee from 2001-2004. Shirley was an active longtime United Methodist and a member for 37 years of the Kennewick First UMC.
Shirley envisioned the idea of providing grant funding for local congregations wanting to develop creative and innovative ministries with older adults. As a result of her leadership efforts, the Comprehensive Plan for Older Adult Ministries was approved in 2000. As committee chair, Shirley helped guide the work of resource development, grant funding, and leadership training for the UM Committee on Older Adult Ministries.
Shirley is survived by her husband of 57 years, Clyde, and two sons, and four grandsons.
