In Memoriam
Eleanor Richardson, age 92, of Decatur, Georgia, died on February 21, 2006. Eleanor was well known for her service as the first chairperson of The United Methodist Committee on Older Adult Ministries.
Eleanor was elected as the Decatur delegate to the state of Georgia House of Representatives, and she served for sixteen years. Her constituency also included all of Georgia's children, older adults, and women. She sponsored and supported many pieces of legislation to enhance the quality of life of these people.
Eleanor was a long-time member of Glenn Memorial United Methodist Church. She was the driving force in the establishment of one of the earliest local church older adult councils in the 1980s. She was able to get the older adult council in the church budget and the church's purchase of a fourteen-passenger bus for older adult use.
"Eleanor's dedication to United Methodism's older adult ministries, both locally and nationally, is her legacy," said the Reverend Betsy Pittard Styles, Glenn Memorial's current minister to older adults.
