Please accept our invitation to join 400-500 camp/retreat ministry friends and colleagues from across the U.S. to celebrate the wonder of God and the deep meaning of our shared ministry. This is a premiere training and networking opportunity provided by The United Methodist Church for the wide variety of leaders involved in camps and retreats: volunteers, camp/retreat center staff, board members, conference staff, and people exploring camp/retreat ministry as a possible vocation. This is not just an event; it is a gathering of the community.
Dynamic presenters and worship will stimulate your thinking and your spirit as we explore the theme "Sacred Sanctuary." What does it mean for us to host people for experiences of sanctuary and experiences of the sacred? The nearby Monarch butterfly sanctuary in Pacific Grove poignantly reminds us of the breadth of God's love, embracing the universe. The dynamic, passionate preaching of Kelvin Sauls promises to rouse our passion for Christ and the way of love. Anne Burnette Hook, a gifted musician and long-time camp/retreat leader, returns by popular demand to lead us in music and song. Mariellen Sawada brings engaging creativity to the study of Scripture and hearing God's voice for our own time.
An extensive buffet of seminars and workshops will satisfy your needs and tastes for learning. The topics covered span the spectrum from core essentials to cutting-edge practices. The leaders and participants that you meet will help you establish an invaluable, ongoing network of relationships, support, and insight that you can continue to tap when you return home. Check out the online event brochure for details.
Important Notice: The National Camp/Retreat Committee has decided to provide an online rather than a print brochure, so please share the above web address with your leaders. The reasons for this shift are threefold: (1) Nearly everyone has Internet access at home, via a local library, local church, or camp/retreat center or conference office. (2) The expense and time-consuming process of printing and mailing a brochure are avoided — good stewardship of time and resources. (3) We can give more information online since we're not restricted by the size of a print resource. Reserve your housing and meals right away (see webpage for specific instructions). Lodging and meal reservations should be made by September 20 in order to guarantee availability. Registration for the event itself can also be done online. The National Camp/Retreat Committee of The United Methodist Church and the General Board of Discipleship are honored to provide this event on your behalf. See you there!
