Activities for Teens, Children, and Toddlers
The National Camp and Retreat Committee is pleased to offer opportunities for families to attend this event together by providing exciting and unique options for teens (grade 7 and older), children (grades K-6), and toddlers or preschool children. These programs dovetail with the event schedule, providing options for children whose parents are attending the main sessions, workshops, and seminars.
Costs
The cost for participation in the program is $85 per child. When you register for the event online, please be sure to indicate the number of children you want to register to participant in the youth, children, or toddler program; and include the appropriate additional fees with your registration payment.
Leadership
We are excited this year to have the Camp Sumatanga camp and retreat staff leading our programs for children and youth. They are qualified professionals who will draw on the unique resources and program areas at Sumatanga.
Youth Program
The youth participants will worship and attend opening sessions with their parents in Hutto Auditorium. During the discussion and small-group times, they will meet with Bart Styes and Megan Gray.
Bart Styes is the director of summer camping programs at Camp Sumatanga. Megan Gray is the recreation resource person for Sumatanga’s elementary camping program. Together with other leaders from Sumatanga, they will lead the youth in games, hikes, crafts, and nature activities.
If you have questions, contact Bart at bart@sumatanga.org.
Children's Program (Grades 1-6)
Boys and girls can enjoy the great outdoors at Sumatanga with hikes and outdoor adventures led by the Environmental Education Center. Children will be exposed to many activities that will give them a chance to explore their natural surroundings at camp while learning about the animal species that live in this 1700-acre area. The activities are geared for both indoor and outdoor adventures. Topics that will be covered include birds, reptiles, and animal signs. Please know that Alabama in January can be cold. Dress appropriately for the weather.
For more information about the specific kinds of programs that Sumatanga’s Environmental Education Center offers, check out the website at www.Sumatanga.org.

Infant and Toddler Program
Childcare will be provided onsite during the keynote, workshop, and seminar sessions. Childcare providers meet all criteria for Safe Sanctuaries and have years of experience providing healthy safe and caring environments. Activities will include storytime, musical activities, and toys to encourage free play in a child-friendly atmosphere. Weather permitting, outdoor walks will be enjoyed by all.
WIGGLE Space: A special toddler and children’s “wiggle” space will be designated for parents to bring their children to the evening sessions. Quiet games, books, and art materials will be provided. Parents are responsible for supervising their children at all times in the WIGGLE Space. Parents can hear the speakers and fully participate in the sessions from this area.
