Lodging and Meals

The 2007 Camp and Retreat Leaders Conference takes place at Sumatanga Camp and Conference Center in Gallant, Alabama. Sumatanga is a wonderful center with various housing options to meet your lodging and budgetary needs. Due to the high turn out expected for this event, there are no single rooms available at Sumatanga. There are a wide variety of accommodations available at Sumatanga for two, three, or more to a room. For those staying at Sumatanga, lodging and meal reservations must be made directly with Sumatanga Camp and Conference Center. The center will work with you if you desire a particular roommate or roommates. For all of you staying at Sumatanga, please be sure to complete the Sumatanga lodging and meal form.

Lodging options at Sumatanga include:

The Retreat Center, a handsome, five-unit, motel style retreat facility, overlooking the camp and the lake. The Retreat Center has 62 spacious, beautifully furnished rooms, handicap accessible rooms, and comfortable meeting rooms and conference rooms in each building.

The Lodge. A long-time favorite for every size group, the Sumatanga Lodge has 66 dormitory style rooms and the seven-bedroom, handicap accessible Guest House. The Lodge also contains the Hundley Dining Room and the versatile, fully equipped Green Auditorium, both seating 300.

The Pool Camp is the historic center of Sumatanga and is a popular choice for retreats and assemblies up to 250 people. The Pool Camp has eight modestly equipped, winterized cabins which sleep 30 each, the Suther Cabin which sleeps 25 and the six-room Retreat House.

Room rates per person are determined by the number of people sharing a room. Be sure that the person or persons you designate to share a room with you have agreed in advance and will definitely be attending the conference. If a roommate fails to come, the cost of the room will be at a higher rate for those remaining in the room, based on the actual number of people who share that space.  Each person in the room must complete a lodging and meals form and include the name of the person who will be sharing the room.

These three nearby hotels are about 25-30 minutes from Sumatanga. Please book your housing directly with the hotel if you are not staying at Sumatanga.

The hotels are located in the town of Gadsden, Alabama. Note that all those staying in hotels will need to provide their own transportation to Sumatanga each day. We encourage folks staying in Gadsden to carpool together.

Meals for those staying at hotels but attending the event are available at Sumatanga. You may purchase meal tickets during registration or buy them in advance by contacting Sumatanga Camp and Conference Center, 256-538-9860.
Meal costs: Breakfast, $6.00; Lunch, $7.00; Dinner, $8.50
A 1% required tax is assessed on all meals.

Very Important:  In addition to reserving meals and lodging, each person must register for the event.  We want to be clear that there are two steps you must complete.
